Preview
The Cleveland Guardians host the Arizona Diamondbacks at Progressive Field on Saturday, August 1, with first pitch set for 7:15 PM ET on FOX. Left-hander Parker Messick draws the start for Cleveland against Arizona's Kohl Drake in what shapes up as a compelling summer matchup. The Guardians roll out a lineup loaded with recognizable names — José Ramírez hitting second, Rhys Hoskins at cleanup, and Steven Kwan leading things off — while Arizona counters with a legitimate offensive threat in Ketel Marte, Nolan Arenado, and Corbin Carroll. This one has the makings of a tight, well-contested ballgame under the lights on the lakefront.
Starting Pitchers: Parker Messick vs. Kohl Drake
Parker Messick gets the ball for the Guardians. The left-hander has shown the organization enough to earn this spot in the rotation, and Saturday night at Progressive Field is a chance to build on that. Arizona sends Kohl Drake to the hill, a pitcher the Guardians haven't seen a great deal of. When lineups have limited familiarity with a starter, first-time-through-the-order at-bats carry extra weight — Cleveland's hitters will need to stay patient early and make Drake work.

Keys to Watch
- Ramírez in the middle of everything. José Ramírez hitting second puts him in position to set the table and drive in runs. If Kwan gets on base ahead of him, Arizona's Drake will face a difficult decision in every at-bat. Ramírez is the engine of this offense.
- Chase DeLauter's opportunity at DH. Hitting third is a significant responsibility. DeLauter in the three-hole signals the organization's belief in what he can do with runners on base. Watch how he handles Drake in his first couple of looks.
- Messick's command against a dangerous Arizona order. Marte and Arenado are genuine threats in the middle of that Arizona lineup. Messick will need to locate his pitches and avoid falling behind hitters who can punish mistakes.
- Travis Bazzana at the bottom of the order. Batting seventh, Bazzana has a chance to turn over the lineup and get Kwan and Ramírez more at-bats. His on-base ability at the bottom of the order matters more than the spot suggests.
Prediction
This is a game where Cleveland's lineup depth should be the difference. Kwan sets the table, Ramírez does damage, and Messick keeps Arizona's offense manageable through the middle innings. The Diamondbacks have real threats in Marte and Arenado, so the Guardians cannot afford to let Drake cruise through a quiet first few frames. Expect a close game that Cleveland pulls out at home, 4-2. Catch it on FOX or on the radio at WTAM 1100 and the Guardians Radio Network.
